EARLY DEVELOPMENT OF THE ALVAR AALTO DRAWINGS ARCHIVE.

Alvar Aalto,s drawings have been shown in many exhibitions which have toured the world. In many books dealing with his architecture, the drawings play an important part. The first writer to make a systematic survey of Aalto´s entire work and go through his drawings archive was Dr Göran Schildt, author of a three-volume monograph on Aalto. Before him, between 1963 and 1978, the Swiss architec Karl Fleig had edited a three-part book on Aalto whose intention had been to cover all of Aalto´s work. But Aalto intervened personally in the choise of projets, which the result that all his classicist work on the 1920s, for example, is absent.
